THE JOURNEY TO SPROUT ON THE ROCK

07/04/2022

Somewhere on this S-shaped strip of land, there are still many miserable people that even if we have been there, we can only feel a part of their hardship. People often give the land of Ha Giang beautiful names such as "the beauty in the heart of the Tam Giac Mach flower season", "ideal adventure trails", "beautiful scenery as paradise"... but perhaps the ideal nature and beautiful paths are not meant for you - the hardy sprouts stretching on the rock.

Located about 130km north of Ha Giang city center, Lung Tao commune of Dong Van district is the residence of the H'Mong ethnic group. Lung Tao junior high school is nestled between the lofty cliffs on the Dong Van rocky plateau, where 52 teachers and 670 primary and secondary students teach and study. This visit to the school, Kien Vuong Company donates 20 dining tables, 140 plastic chairs, 16 conference tables along with gifts of warm clothes for all students and 305 preschool children. In addition, the group also donates 15 more winter blankets to the children who are boarding school at the school. On the day of the delegation's visit, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan - Local Secretary and the Principal of Lung Tao Secondary School excitedly shares: "In the past, each meal had to be divided into 3 shifts to eat, but now there are more tables and chairs, so now only need one shift."

The school is nestled between craggy cliffs

Small children go to school in thin clothes even when the weather gets cold

Perhaps the living and learning conditions are still difficult, but it has trained the students to have a very high self-esteem. Those children do not know how to insist candy from adults. They wake up, exercise and clean up the school yard early every morning without anyone reminding them."The children here love to go to school because at school they can just learn to read and eat well. At home, I only eat corn and have to go to paddy fields to help out their family" - Ms. Hang, an official of Ha Giang Provincial Youth Union shares. We are surprised to learn that the whole school only has one toilet for teachers and students, so everyone has to arrange and divide shifts to shower and do wash. Ms. Nga, vice-principal of the school confides: "Because of the large number of students, not all of them can take shower every day. Those who have taken shower today will not take shower tomorrow." There are also teachers who have to go to school every day on a steep and winding road, one side is a cliff, the other is a deep abyss. On rainy days, the road is slippery, they even have to wrap the chain around the bike's tire to stay safe.

No need reminder, the children always wake up very early and assign each other to clean the school yard

Although it is hard, those who have carried on their shoulders the mission of cultivating noble people are still determined to stick to school, to class, to work hard to find words for children who are only accustomed to the mountains and hills and paddy fields. Nothing is more beautiful than the image of teachers, who roll up their sleeves, going into the kitchen to cook for their students meager meals, giving them a thin blanket when the weather gets cold. The journey that awakens young souls and infuses them with the magical light of knowledge is full of difficulties and challenges, but very glorious. Although lacking in material things, it is still full in soul.

The idyllic and warm love of teachers and students in the village on the back of the mountain

Coming to Lung Tao on the occasion of celebrating Vietnamese Teachers' Day 20/11, we also feel the idyllic and warmth teacher-student relationship in this remote village, soothing the cold atmosphere of the Northern winter. In his speech at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Huu Quí - General Director of Kien Vuong Co., Ltd expresses his desire to help the school and the children to have a more cozy place to eat and stay, contributing to the spacious dining room and improve food safety. In addition, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - Director of An Chau Company Limited - a companion of Kien Vuong Co., Ltd on this charity trip, also decides to give 10 more special gifts to 10 children with the best academic achievements and who follow the guidance of teachers and parents throughout the school academic year.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Qui - General Director has a friendly conversation with the teachers and students of Lung Tao Secondary School

There are many ways for people to share love with their fellow human beings, but we have chosen a special path, with no bright flags and flowers, nor needing to beat drums and gongs, as long as the heart is shared and spread to the right people and to where it is needed the most. It's not just a responsibility to the community and society. Like Mr. Qui, Ms. Hien always thinks: "I go for the unfortunate, not for personal purposes nor for borrowing them to polish our name". Hopefully in the future there will be many more meaningful trips like this, more schools will be supported, although it is just a shirt and blanket, but we believe it will be a motivation to help the children feel safe going to school and reach to a better future. I would like to borrow the lyrics of the song "My teacher"(Co Giao Ban Em) sounded in the middle of the school yard that day to replace the expectation of a tomorrow "from the village where birds fly, in the sky full of spring sun".

SAD STORY IN A REMOTE COMMUNE

What do you see after the past volunteer trips? Is not seeing the things around that people call fame. Only see love when sharing each other pieces. Is it a piece of cake, a sweater or a pair of forest sandals. What do you see beside the cheers ? It's a picture of a 5-year-old boy carrying his brother who is thirsty for milk. In that area, people must find ways for a proper meal ? YES. That is right. The children in the highlands are still suffering!

THE LAST LEG OF THE JOURNEY BRINGING WARMTH TO THE CHILDREN OF YEN BAI HIGHLAND

We can't have enough strength to change the situation, overcome the difficulties for teachers and students, just hope to contribute with the teachers to "retain" the children to stay at the school to study properly, so that the students will be the ones to draw a bright future for themselves!
