In the program to increase awareness about understanding sustainability as well as factors related to climate changes, BASF Vietnam and Kien Vuong Company Limited have organized a seminar to connect with the manufacturing customers in Pharmaceutical Industry and share some insights.

With the main message of "BASF's "Drive for Pharma Sustainability", the seminar is held at Liberty Central Riverside Hotel on the morning of December 14, 2023, with the presence of delegates, representatives of BASF Vietnam, representatives of Kien Vuong Company Limited, and customers from many pharmaceutical companies.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong gives the opening speech of the seminar.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong - General Director of Kien Vuong Company Limited starts the seminar by sharing his words as well as giving thanks to customers for their attendances. Through his sharing, BASF and Kien Vuong not only want to send messages relating to sustainability, but also, to introduce some technical solutions for customers in drug manufacturing. Hence increases the value and brand awareness of BASF and Kien Vuong Company Limited.

After the welcoming speech, Mr. Erick Contreras - General Director of BASF Vietnam gives an overview of the role and the meaning of sustainability in the chemical industry in general, as well as in the pharmaceutical industry in particular. He emphasizes that sustainability cannot be achieved separately by an individual, a business, or a country, it requires a close connection and cooperation to develop an equitable solution, and at the same time, raise the awareness and knowledge so that everyone can do it together.

Ms. Do Thi Hong Duyen - BASF Vietnam presents the sustainability projects

Next, to further clarify the meaning of sustainability, how it is recognized and evaluated, as well as how BASF is operating according to the commitments set out from the beginning, Ms. Do Thi Hong Duyen - Country Development from BASF Vietnam shares with the audiences about the method of calculating the product's Carbon Footprint (PCF), and the Mass Balance Approach. BASF also presents to customers three aspects that need to be focused on to meet the sustainability criteria, which are (1) circular business model, (2) life cycle of new materials and ( 3 ) new business models.

After the break, the remaining two topics are presented respectively by Ms. Ngo Thi Chi Tam – Sales Manager, Pharmaceutical Solutions, BASF Vietnam, and Mr. Umakanth Kanna - Head of Regional Technical Service, Pharma Solutions, BASF Singapore.

Ms. Chi Tam summarizes the BASF's product portfolios that can be applied in the pharmaceutical industry and emphasizes the importance of sustainability, as well as helping the end-use products to be more eco-friendly, cleaner, and safer. The most familiar product brands to pharmaceutical customers, who have trusted BASF for many years, are summarized and highlighted with outstanding features such as Povidone Iodine, Kollidon, Kolliphor, Kollisolv, Kollicoat... Through this seminar, Kien Vuong and BASF want customers to feel more secured in their production before exporting to highly regulated markets such as Europe, Japan, etc. where Sustainability is one of the factors that contributes to the buying decision.  

Mr. Umakanth Kanna - Head of Regional Technical Service, Pharma Solutions, BASF Singapore presents on the topic of topical preparation.

Associate Professor. Tran Van Thanh –Department of Galenic, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy summarizes and interprets the topic of topical dosage forms.

Finally, Mr. Umakanth Kanna and Associate Professor. Tran Van Thanh from the Department of Formulation, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy present to the audiences an overview of topical dosage forms and solutions that BASF and Kien Vuong could deliver to customers.

Nowadays, to diversify dosage forms, pharmaceuticals are not limited to familiar and popular drug forms such as tablets, liquid solutions, or injections. The expansion of different drug forms not only gives users more options, but also makes it possible to accurately locate the causative agents for more reasonable treatment. Not only skin diseases but also the need for cosmetics and personal care are increasingly concerned and developed. Mr. Umakanth has generalized the trends in topical preparation through different types such as topical creams, topical gels, ointments... From there, audiences can clearly analyze and consider the advantages and disadvantages of each type and choose the appropriate during the production process. To create a stable end-use product, it is important to go deep into the formula and understand the roles and challenges of the preparation. Helping to reduce costs in the preparation and production process is the idea that BASF wants to convey to customers through the seminar.

After the presentation, customers express their interests by placing questions to the speakers. Through the Q&A session, Kien Vuong and BASF want to support and establish more projects in topical dosage forms with the customers in the near future.
